Travel Photography September 4, 2016

I have been a keen photographer for the past 20 years, but have never done much with the photos I took. As with most people, the old film photos end up in a box or drawer, and that’s the end of that. With the new technology, and introduction of digital photography, it is possible to take thousands of photos, but they just end up sitting idly in your computer’s memory.

I decided that I have to share it with other people, as I enjoy looking at other photographers’ photos, and I am sure I have a few good ones that other people will also enjoy looking at, and might even want to order as prints or canvass art. So this is the beginning of my venture into the unknown, of starting off as a travel photographer, and maybe in the near future, even writer of travel articles.

I will be posting regular articles and photos to this site, so please join me in this odyssey of exploring our wonderful planet though the lens of my camera. I will share with you places in South Africa, as I travel close to home, as well as the odd trip further afield.

I also hope to add interesting information about the places visited, and links to useful websites for travel bookings and accommodation.

See you on the next page…..

The Tasting Experience

Food is undisputedly one of the greatest pleasures in life, that can be enjoyed by all, disregarding race, financial status or where you live in the world. It is one of the most complex, but also most easily achievable reward that can be shared with your loved ones. There is nothing that cheers you up and comforts you after a long day, more than the smell  and sight, of a freshly cooked meal which is shared with family and friends.

It is also one of the unique things that can be experienced as you travel to different parts of the world, as each country has it’s own  way of preparing food, enhancing simple ingredients with their individual spices and flavors. To me it is always a pleasure to try new and different dishes when I travel. I believe that one should always try something different to what you have had before, to get the full experience of the food and culture of a country.

I will also share tips on finding the best sites to do your travel bookings, hotels, restaurant, and places of interest.

Kogelbaai – Western Cape December 2, 2009

Sometimes the most beautifull places are withing driving distance to where one live. This is the case with the most beautifull beach, I believe, in South Africa.

It is so strange that I grew in the area, but only discovered Kogelbaai when I was nearly 40 years old. Since then, I make use of every opportunity I have to go there. The past weekend we went camping there. We had the most wonderfull weather, and waking up in the morning, hearing the sea rumble close by, and smelling the ocean, is just more than anyone can ask for.

The beach is about 2 km long, with the camping site running along the the beach all the way. There are lovely trees to camp under, and you can choose between sites with a view over the beach, or more secluded between the bushes.

I would recommend anyone that loves nature, and don’t mind roughing it a bit, as there is no hot water (but I purchased a solar shower, which is basically a big black bag, that you put in the sun to warm up, and works like a bomb), to go there for the night or weekend, or longer. It has such a wonderfull energy, and one comes back, relaxed and ready for the rat-race!

It also is one of the best surf spots around. The sea is quite rough at times, but if you time it right, you can catch the most awesome waves!
